Alleged phony credit card scams don't fool bank or police in Hudson PDF Print E-mail

HUDSON--Jose L. Rivera, 19, of Lawrence, Mass. was charged with third degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree criminal impersonation, third degree attempted grand larceny (more than $3,000) and second degree identity theft by Officer William Wrigley, July 15 at 3:44 p.m.

Mr. Rivera allegedly attempted to steal more than $3,000 from an account at Bank of America that belonged to another 19-year-old man.

Police say Mr. Rivera assumed the identity of the victim and had a fake Phoenix driver's license and Visa credit card bearing the victim's name but with Mr. Rivera's photo on it.

Police say Mr. Rivera went inside the bank at 561 Warren Street, presented these fake IDs, identified himself as the victim and attempted to get a temporary debit card so he could withdraw money from the account that was not his.

Mr. Rivera was arraigned and jailed lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bail bond.

*Patrice C. Melara, 20, of Hudson was charged with fourth degree grand larceny (credit card) and petit larceny by Officer Mishanda Franklin, July 16 at 1:08 p.m.

Ms. Melara allegedly stole a Visa credit card from a woman at 41 North Second Street.

She later allegedly withdrew $100 at an ATM using the credit card that did not belong to her.

Police say Bank of America employees called them after seeing someone wearing a hooded sweatshirt with their face covered attempting to get into the bank at 8:10 a.m. before the bank was open.

Officers recognized Ms. Melara on security video and shortly thereafter a woman came to the station to report her purse and her Visa card stolen. Police say Ms. Melara was trying to get into the bank foyer to use the ATM there and was trying to hide her face.

She was issued tickets to appear in court at a later date.

*Kevin M. Williams, 37, of Hudson was charged with second degree criminal contempt and second degree burglary by Officer Rodney Waithe, July 12 at 4:50 p.m.

Mr. Williams allegedly entered and remained unlawfully in a woman's residence, July 8. A Hudson City Court Order of Protection was in place at the time to prevent Mr. Williams from contacting the woman.

Mr. Williams was arraigned in City Court and jailed in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.

*Jose Martin Colon, 25, of Hudson was charged with third degree criminal possession of a weapon (previous conviction) and false personation by Officer William Wrigley, July 14 at 6:19 p.m.

Police approached Mr. Colon after they saw him walking on the 200 block of State Street attempting to conceal a 25-inch baseball bat July 10. He allegedly identified himself by a false name to police, who later found out that Mr. Colon had been convicted of a prior crime.

He was arraigned in City Court and jailed in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond.

*Jayson Williams, 26, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child by Officer Jacob Hoffman, July 6 at 2:25 p.m.

Mr. Williams allegedly hit a woman in the face repeatedly, grabbed her by the neck and hit her head against a wall several times in the presence of a two-year-old child at 14 Edmunds Lane.

Mr. Williams was arraigned and released pending a future court appearance.

*Earsel Napier, Jr., 19, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault and second degree unlawful imprisonment by Officer Tracey Newkirk, July 6 at 3:39 p.m.

Mr. Napier allegedly hit a woman and prevented her from leaving his residence.

He was arraigned and released pending a future court appearance.

*Willie Lloyd, 47, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault by Sergeant Thomas Foutch, July 16 at 10:08 p.m.

Police went to State and Fifth streets where a man was reportedly hitting a woman, but the man, subsequently identified as Mr. Lloyd allegedly fled the scene. He allegedly struck a 44-year-old Catskill woman several times causing injury. Mr. Lloyd turned himself in after learning of the charge.

He was issued an appearance ticket.

*Aba R. McMillon, 36, of Hudson was charged with endangering the welfare of a child by Officer Nicolas Pierro, July 18 at 12:48 p.m.

Ms. McMillon allegedly locked a 14-year-old boy out of his residence and would not allow him back in. She was issued an appearance ticket.

*Samuel J. Sampson, 39, of Hillsdale was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), false inspection certificate and broken glass by Officer Mishanda Franklin, July 15 at 11:10 a.m.

The officer pulled Mr. Sampson over at 215 Harry Howard Avenue on the vehicle and traffic violations and found him to allegedly have a plastic bag containing an off-white powder, which field-tested positive for cocaine. The substance weighed more than 500 milligrams. He was arraigned and released pending a future court appearance.
