Greene Co. man charged with setting Chatham fire PDF Print E-mail

CHATHAM—A Greene County man is in the Columbia County Jail in connection with setting a house fire Sunday morning.

The Chatham Fire Department along with Ghent, Valatie and Red Rock were dispatched to a house fire at 18 Jones Avenue, March 10 at about 8 a.m. The blaze was called in by a neighbor who said the front of the building was on fire. Neighbors and first responders quickly extinguished the blaze. Chatham fire officials and the Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office requested the assistance of State Police troopers and investigators at the scene of the fire due to its suspicious nature.

Fire destroys firefighters' home PDF Print E-mail

COPAKE—Volunteer Firefighters Dale Roberts and Liana Summers were awakened when fire erupted in their home at 108 Lake Shore Drive, Thursday, March 7 at 6:23 a.m. The couple and their daughter ran out of the house to safety.

Mr. Roberts, a Copake Fire Company life member with more than 25 years of active service, called 911. Ms. Summers has been an active member of the company’s fire police for five years and is also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

Search leads police to body of missing Copake man, 77, in Hillsdale PDF Print E-mail

HILLSDALE—A missing 77-year-old Copake man was found dead in the woods by Sheriff’s deputies in the early morning hours of March 1.

Thursday, February 28 at 9:15 p.m., deputies received a report that Roger W. Moody of Snyder Pond Road was missing, according to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.

Firefighters rescue woman trapped on 2nd floor in Stockport PDF Print E-mail

STOCKPORT--A woman, who was trapped in her burning second floor apartment, was forced to jump into the arms of two waiting firemen, February 12.

The fire, in an apartment complex at 40 Pats Lane, broke out just after 8 a.m. Kristen Kyle Clause told newsman Lance Wheeler that she woke up in a room filled with smoke. She couldn’t see and she couldn’t go back in to save her cat. Stockport Assistant Chief Randy Plass and firefighter Paul VanAllen caught Ms. Clause and rushed her to their car to keep warm. She escaped her apartment without any shoes or coat. A firefighter tried to revive her black and white cat without success. The Valatie Rescue was also on the scene along with mutual aid from Stottville, Stuyvesant, Stuyvesant Falls and West Ghent.

Deputy, teen collide on Route 23 in Claverack PDF Print E-mail

MARTINDALE—A Columbia County sheriff's deputy and a high school student were taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital after a two-car accident involving a marked Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle on Route 23. The accident happened 1,000 feet east of County Route 11, February 14 at 7:55 a.m.

The Community Rescue Squad took the operator of the patrol vehicle, Deputy Joseph Bruno, to the hospital with hand and rib pain, according to a press release from Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.
