STUYVESANT--The Kelley and John Demarest family lost everything in a July 8 house fire at 956 Route 9J. Donations to help the family may be made at any branch of the First Niagara Bank.
Stuyvesant firefighters and Valatie Rescue were dispatched at 2:52 a.m. The family was alerted to the blaze by a smoke detector.

GHENT--Brandon K. Varian, 18, of Ghent was charged with one count of first degree criminal sexual act, a class B felony, July 1 at 8:13 p.m. according to Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.
Sheriff's Office Investigator Mark Dunspaugh made the arrest.
Mr. Varian is accused of sexually abusing a two-year-old boy while taking a shower with him June 28 at the child's residence in Ghent.

VALATIE--A teenager allegedly responsible for a one-man burglary spree was arrested by Livingston State Police and Sheriff's deputies on a dozen charges, July 6.
Jonathan E. Ramirez, 19, of Valatie was charged with 12 counts of third degree burglary.

HUDSON--Investigators from the Sheriff's Office and New York State Police assigned to the Capital District Drug Task Force, assisted by Hudson Police, arrested Edwin E. Rivera of Stockport for unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon, June 29 at 11:35 a.m.
The arrest was made on a federal warrant issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge David R Homer, according to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.

Teen awaiting sentencing for fatal crash now faces burglary charges |

LEBANON SPRINGS--A teenager, who will be sentenced later this month on charges related to a crash that left one man dead, now faces felony burglary charges.
Lars Haas, 18, of Lebanon Springs, who was out on $50,000 bail at the time of the alleged crime, was among three teens charged with burglarizing the New Lebanon Little League concession stand in Shatford Memorial Park in March.
