W.GHENT--Meadowgreens Restaurant was ravaged by a fire spotted by a passerby, who called 911 on a cell phone Thursday, January 21, at 4:10 a.m.

West Ghent Fire Chief James Cesternino told The Columbia Paper that the blaze started in the bar area of the lower dining room at the north end of the one-story rectangular structure.

Police say woman fought with officers after Route 23 car chase PDF Print E-mail

CLAVERACK--Elizabeth Grupp, 19, of Claverack was charged with assault, resisting arrest, second degree obstructing governmental administration, three counts of disorderly conduct and second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument by Trooper Michael Castle, January 10.

Troopers were asked to check on Ms. Grupp's well being but found that she had departed her residence before they got there. A short time later Trooper James Horton spotted her vehicle, and Ms. Grupp then allegedly led troopers on a pursuit along Route 23. When they stopped her vehicle and attempted to take her into custody, Ms. Grupp allegedly fought with troopers and was subsequently found to allegedly possess a forged Texas identification card.

Man allegedly threatens to use club as weapon PDF Print E-mail

HUDSON--Mohammad N. Khan, 43, of Stottville was charged with second degree menacing and third degree criminal possession of a weapon (prior conviction) by Hudson Police Detective John Funk Jr.  January 14 at 9:40 a.m.

Mr. Khan was taken into custody at his residence on a City Court warrant for the charges after he allegedly threatened to kill a 37-year-old man with a wooden club. Police say Mr. Khan swung the club and threatened to hit the man with it while the man was in his vehicle in front of 947 Columbia Street.

Chatham man charged in Stockport rape PDF Print E-mail

STOCKPORT--Livingston State Police investigators charged Victor Orozco, 24, of Chatham with first degree rape and first degree burglary, January 8.

Mr. Orozco is accused of breaking into a Stockport residence January 7, holding the homeowner at gunpoint and raping her. The crimes were not random, according to State Police Senior Investigator Gary Mazzacano, who told The Columbia Paper that Mr. Orozco knew the victim.

Hudson Police charge 3 citing pot buy that wasn't PDF Print E-mail

HUDSON--Hudson Police say that a reported armed robbery was really a drug deal gone bad.

Police were notified January 10 at about 10 p.m. that a robbery involving a handgun took place near 41 North Second Street.

According to police, the alleged victim, Jason Higley, 23, of Philmont, told them he was walking to the store when he was approached by a man who demanded money and displayed a handgun. Mr. Higley told police he gave his money to the man, who then fled from the area on foot. Donald Laurange, 21, of Hudson, who was with Mr. Higley at the time, told police that he saw the incident transpire and then ran away while his friend was being robbed.
